    Where to put your content

First person content => If you are contributing and expect to write in first person ("I") and do not want people editing your content even if it is incorrect, then find the right Discussion Forum to post your topic in. The PIUG Discussion Forum is anticipated to take the place of PIUG-L as described below.

Third person content => If you are contributing factual content for the overall benefit of the wiki community and are not going to write in first person and are not concerned about others editing your content for the benefit of all, then find or create a non-forum wiki page. Where it fits in the general hierarchy (see Navigation in the left side panel) can be taken care of later if necessary.

    PIUG Discussion Forum

This is the proposed replacement for the PIUG Discussion List (PIUG-L). Try it out with the understanding that the audience is still small. Once you login, be sure to click on the "Watch Page Family"  icon at the upper-right corner of the main discussion forum page to get email notifications of new or changed postings in the forum. Alternatively, watch the whole PIUG space to be notified of all changes in content using the "  Watch this Space" option in the menu under your username.

The wiki discussion forum has more functionality and benefits and few drawbacks compared to PIUG-L as described in the announcement posting. The PIUG Board of Directors will make the decision in the next few months about when the replacement will take place and how we will handle the transition. Post your feedback about the replacement process in directly in the discussion forum.

      Hi, Tom.

Thanks for initiating this PIUG wiki. It looks like a very good start!

I am testing the functionality of adding a comment here to see where it will show up. It seems that if comments sent by individuals are displayed on the same pages as these links to the knowledge databases, they may "clutter" the resources. I would prefer that the comments are sent and stored separately from the "official" pages of the wiki where the actual "knowledge gold nuggets" are stored.

      Thanks.

      Cynthia:

The issue is that we generally don't have "official" pages in the wiki that we would restrict either for writing or addition comments. Perhaps the front pages of each wikispace and a few others would be managed only by the administrators. However, to do that to very many pages would run counter to the community nature of the wiki which encourages everyone to contribute. In general, PIUG Wiki registrants would have the choice of directly editing the content of the page via the Edit function at the top or adding a comment as you did. Of course, administrators can delete or edit contributions; Wikipedia managers/moderators/administrators do that all the time. I think you should consider the main PIUG website as our official pages and the wiki as our community collaboration medium.
