QRG - Community Membership

Added by Admin - Tom Wolff , last edited by Admin - Tom Wolff on Sep 17, 2009 16:18

Membership "Communities" are used in the PIUG wiki to give access to private team, committee and task force spaces.

Individuals may see their community membership from the link with that name under their name in the top blue menu bar. They have options to leave communities to which they are already members, view the community membership or invite other users to their communities. Requests to join a community must be made by email to the community administrators who are almost always the team, committee or task force chairpeople.

Space Administrators can invite wiki member to join their "community" or add them directly to their "communities" by going to the Community Members page from the top menubar item Admin...Space Administration...Manage Community Membership. There is an Invite Users link under Operations. Alternatively, look for the " Community Member Administration" link just above the array of members' pictures. This link opens a list of selection items and the following text:

Select the administration option to apply then enter the user names to apply option to in the text box. (You can search for users using the magnifying glass or click on the users listed below to add their usernames to the list.)

  • Add Members Directly
  • Leave Community
  • Ban Community Members
  • Remove Community Members

Use the find users icon to find individual wiki users to add to or remove from your team.

In other words, to find wiki members to add, click on the magnifying glass and search for target people using the asterisk in any of the three search boxes, Full Name, Email, or Username. For example, to find "Elaine Person", search for e* in each of the boxes, one at a time, most effectively in the order of the boxes left to right. Most often people do enter their full names as expected, but email addresses and particularly usernames can be odd variations of their names or totally unrelated to their names. When you find the person in the search results box, click on the box next to the person's entry and click on Select User. You will be returned to the "Community Member Administration" page on which you select the radio button of interest, e.g. Add Members Directly, and click on Submit. You may process multiple entries separated by commas. Note that the entries must be the USERNAME, not full name or email address.

Space Administrators may also confirm all their team members are watching the team space using the "Managing Users Watching This Space" item under the "Space Administration" menu item. All "Space Watchers" are listed and new ones can be added.
