Unpublished GB national patent apps

Dear colleagues:

I have a client who is interested in examining 2-3 (apparently) unpublished GB national applications from the early 1990s. These apps were claimed as priority apps for a patent family in which the next filings were EP and WO (filed in GB) apps, concurrently filed a year after the latest GB app. I was unable to retrieve the status details for any of these apps from the UK IPO's patent status inquiry page.

My questions:
(1) Are these apps available for inspection?
(2) If so, can one request copies, and how?
(3) Are such applications (assuming they are lapsed, abandoned, or whatever the proper term) handled similarly to abandoned US apps?

I'm afraid I can't provide more specific details without compromising the interests of my client.

Thanks very much in advance.

Regards,

Abandoning applications after using them to establish priority is a relatively common practice.

It is also a common practice for patent offices to make priority documents public after publication of the patent applications that claim them.  You can find priority documents claimed in PCT applications in PatentScope, and you can find priority documents for EP applications in EPOLINE.
