I am trying to conduct a specific search on WIPO. The User's Guide is not helping me at all. I would like to search EP patents from December 1, 2017 to January 31, 2018 for any patents issued to Waters Corporation. I only want issued patents. Can someone help me with the search string?
EPO will be presenting a workshop entitled Searching Peptides and Proteins and Second Medical Use Claims from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a break at 10:00 AM. Breakfast, breaks and lunch will then be provided for those attending the EPO workshop and those attending the two vendor workshops, BizInt and GQ Life Sciences, in the afternoon. Please register for all of the workshops being held on February 20, 2018. It is important to have your name added in the headcount for each workshop so there is ample food available throughout the day.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Patent Information Users Group (PIUG) Inc., it is my pleasure to announce the call for applications for the prestigious Stu Kaback Business Impact Award for 2018. In keeping with the mission of the PIUG, the award serves to promote the patent information profession by celebrating its remarkable practitioners for the important contributions they make to their respective organizations.
The purpose of the Stu Kaback Business Impact Award is to recognize the achievements of an individual or a team of individuals who, in performing as patent information professionals, have made a distinct impact on an organization such as, but not limited to, a corporation, university, government agency, non-government organization, or a non-profit organization. A patent information professional for the purpose of this award is a person who searches, analyzes, organizes and/or disseminates patent information, or who designs patent information retrieval systems. A description of the award and the application process is provided below. I encourage you to consider applying for this prestigious award or to nominate a colleague who you believe has had a distinct impact on your organization.
The PIUG-sponsored award consists of US$1500.00, a commemorative keepsake, and gratis registration at the PIUG 2018 Annual Conference, an international conference for patent information professionals. If a team is selected as the award recipient, the US$1500.00 will be divided equally among the team members and each member will receive a commemorative keepsake. The gratis registration will be awarded to a team representative, as designated by the team, who will be presented with the award during the Gala Dinner at the PIUG 2018 Annual Conference.
Application Process Summary
The deadline for applications for the 2018 Stu Kaback Business Impact Award is 23 March 2018, 11:59 PM US EST. Applications are welcome from all over the world and should be sent to secretary @ piug.org (please remove spaces). Award applicants may either be self-nominated or nominated by another. If a team is nominated, the team members may be from the same organization or from different organizations. If you wish to nominate a patent information professional or a team of patent information professionals for the award, you will need to contact the nominee(s), as the award application requires their input. Nominations from the previous 3 years are still eligible and do not need to be resubmitted.
Examples of situations worthy of nomination include, but are not limited to:
- performance of a patent landscaping project which helped an organization successfully manage a merger, acquisition or partnership;
- a patent validity search which helped a company avoid or support a major lawsuit, or an opposition or revocation proceeding critical to the organization;
- the development of a new tool or database involving patent information which helped an organization expand into a new market;
- providing assistance to an organization by way of an advisory board to improve an existing product or service involving patent information; or
- assisting a project team to develop new ideas and explore their patentability, which led to a new product, process or service of the organization.

How to search efficiently in Asian prior art? How to monitor recent developments in patent information from China, Japan, Korea and emerging markets? How to decipher patent documents in non-Western languages?
The European Patent Office will again host its annual forum on Asian patent information where such issues will be addressed in an informal atmosphere together with experts and users.
During the two-day event, participants will get an update on hot topics such as
- Artificial Intelligence – Role and impact on Asian patent information searching
- Crowd searching – experiences, advantages and risks?
- IP in the context of China’s “Belt and Road” initiative
Various interactive sessions offer the possibility to share experiences with representatives from industry and academia, information professionals and searchers, patent attorneys and data providers from all over the world. There will be plenty of opportunity for one-on-one discussions and networking with experts from patent offices from Asia and beyond.
Commercial providers will give an update on new trends on the Asian patent information market during a poster exhibition and selected product presentations. As usual, optional seminars will be offered in the run-up to the forum on Thursday morning.
There is still time to submit an abstract for the CINF symposium for the American Chemical Society National Meeting to be held in Boston, Fall, 2018: August 19-23, 2018 entitled, “Chemical structure searching for patent information”.
Chemical structure searching is a technique which can be used to search for chemically-related patent information based on chemical structures. A variety of databases exist which can be searched by structure to retrieve chemically-related patent information based on exemplified compounds and/or Markush structures. This symposium will discuss topic such as:
- features of existing databases - such as comprehensiveness and content
- technologies used to create structure searchable patent information databases
- comparison of existing systems
- user experiences
- pros and cons of the existing products
- new techniques relating to structure searching for patent information
- new approaches for structure searching for patent information

Abstract: This e-Seminar will detail the Derwent Chemistry Resource database (aka DCR) on STNext. It will explain the content of the database, including little-known records covering small peptides, oligomers, and natural products including enzymes and proteins. This e-Seminar will investigate the various Derwent classification codes associated with these substance records. The session will also include searching strategies for finding relevant substance records, besides structure searching.
A second e-Seminar will be given in March that will cover the structure searching aspect of this database. Together, these two sessions will give the searcher all the tools one needs to perform high-quality searches in DCR. This e-Seminar is geared to all searchers, regardless of searching expertise
