Hi everyone,

STN is running the following e-Seminar in December –

Title: Get First Insights into STN

Abstract: In this era of digital globalization, early access to trustful and extensive sources of data within a plethora of information is crucial. STN®, an online database service, integrates the world‘s largest and most important value-added databases for sci-tech and patent information on one platform. The browser-based interface STNext enables the focused and comprehensive retrieval of the desired information. Conceived not only as a refresher training for information professionals occasionally or not ever using this multidisciplinary search tool, but also for on-the-job searchers still unfamiliar with STN, this presentation offers the first steps inside.
– The preliminary starting of STNext under customized settings, together with some principal commands and features of STNext will be outlined.
– The basic search is illustrated by a classic single database keyword search, then further applied to a multiple-database search.
– The options of the appropriate databases are assisted by STNGuide, a cost-effective directory database compiled from all databases summary sheets.
– A brief overview of other commands exposes further steps towards a more advanced and multi-faceted search.
Let us make first acquaintance with the STN search tool connecting to databases from the most renowned database producers worldwide!

Hi everyone,

STN is running the following e-Seminar in November –

Title: CAS FORMULATIONS(TM): CAS brings new content and search precision options for Formulation IP searching to STNext(R)

Abstract: During this webinar you will get a better understanding of the content and search capabilities for formulation IP searching in CAS FORMULATIONS, a recently added database produced by CAS to STNext(R). Using specific search fields and proximity operators, users can now significantly increase the precision of their formulation searches. Out of a single publication (patent, journal article or DailyMed product insert) multiple formulation definitions are manually curated. You will see how to search for combinations of substances to their function in the formulation and their optionality. The location of the formulation (claims, examples, tables, supplemental information) can also be defined. Several case studies will also show how to combine the results of a structure search in CAplus and Marpat with additional compounds in a formulation. An example will show how to approach compounds with a variable alkyl chain, commonly used in formulations. For IP searchers mainly in agrochemicals, the well-known issues of finding mixtures of actives can now be improved resulting in a significant reduction of the post-processing time of manual relevance checking.
