A full-day workshop on patent translation will be held on Sunday, August 30, in conjunction with the 12th machine translation (MT) Summit conference, August 26-30, 2009, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

The workshop organizers have done an impressive job of attracting representatives from Patent Offices around the world, including: Japan, Korea, PRC, and European Patent Office. Several international patent offices offer automated translation of patents and patent applications - both for patent examiners, and for applicants seeking to do patent research.

This workshop includes updates from each of the patent offices on current translation offerings, future plans, and discussions of best practice in providing and using translations of patents in research.

The full workshop agenda will be available soon at http://summitxii.amtaweb.org. (Follow the left menu bar to "workshops". Scroll down to "Workshop 7".)

Registration for the one-day workshop is $350 as an independent event, or discounted to $105 when purchased together with registration for the MT Summit conference. This event provides an unprecedented opportunity to learn about patent translation, and to interact with well-placed experts from the international patent community.

Comments and questions welcome.
