Hi All,

Just wanted to take a very informal poll regarding these two platforms.  For those that have used them in the present or somewhat recent past could you answer the following.  Just wondering where this question may land within this community.

  1. If you had to choose between only these two IP platforms (Questel or Innography) which would you choose?
  2. And what would be your one or two top reasons for that choice?

Thanks so much,

Sandra

  1. I am very familiar with the Questel platform having used Orbit for a number of years.  I like the way you can upload a Word document and the system extracts PNs from the file to import them into the system.  I also like the find similar feature and the key content (which is unique to Orbit).  The analytics are pretty good as well.  The content in Fampat seems to be pretty reliable and I am less familiar with the content in Innography so that alone could be a primary concern.   I think Innography's target market is for business development professionals (rather than search professionals) since it has features that are useful to them but it has been a few years since I looked at their product so I could be wrong.

  2. Sandra,

I have extensive experience with Orbit and I've tried Innography a few times. Innography is not really a search tool for professional searchers as you can't have a proper search history and exclude a plurality of search strings to have an efficient search methodology. I'd say that it is mostly for attorneys or people dealing with marketing and business development and want to look at something really quick, but aren't concerned with top accuracy. You can create pretty analytics with it, but don't have the ability to merge assignees that you know are subsidiaries, e.g., so not a lot of control and customization from the user. Orbit, on the other hand, allows you to do proper searching and proper analytics. I think Innography has some financial data that Orbit lacks currently.

Hope this helps you make a decision.
